Veteran starter Max Scherzer (40) heads north.

Scherzer is a veteran player who played for 17 seasons in the Major League. He recorded 216 wins and 112 losses with a 3.16 ERA in 466 games.

He won three Cy Young Awards for Detroit in the 2013 season, Washington in the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

It is the sixth time that both leagues have won Cy Young Awards, following Gaylord Perry, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens and Roy Halladay.

He is an eight-time All-Star and contributed to winning the World Series in Washington in 2019 and Texas in 2023.

The 2024 season marked the season on the injured list in the aftermath of back surgery, and since then, he has been on the injured list twice more due to shoulder fatigue and hamstring sprains.

He only started nine games and recorded two wins, four losses and an earned run average of 3.95. He pitched 431/3 innings, recording seven homers, 10 walks, and 40 strikeouts.

Toronto needed a starting pitcher to take over as Yusei Kikuchi left the team in a trade during last season.

Scherzer will lead the Toronto selection along with Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassett, Bowden Francis and Yariel Rodriguez.
